About the Cheesecake Burlesque Revue

History

The Cheesecake Burlesque Revue unofficially started at a birthday party with a burlesque twist. In 2006, Midori Colada invited Vancouver performer Little Woo over to teach a small workshop for her birthday. The debut performances of a few of The Cheesecakes, from that workshop happened in Kitten Kaboodle's packed living room to an enthusiatic crowd of friends. And there was born the troupe's first incarnation known as "The Velvet Smut Revue". The amateur revue was booked by a friend to provide entertainment at an event (with 250 people in attendance!!!) and the girls quickly developed a love of the stage.

It wasn't too long after, that local pinup and burlesque performer Bettina May sent out a notice wanting to start a local troupe of her own. The Velvet Smut Revue answered the call and was re-christened "The Capital City Cheesecake Burlesque Revue" in July 2006. Soon after, Bettina May started touring more and enjoyed great success with her Glam-o-rama Girly Show. Bettina pursued a solo career, and with Champagne Sparkles leading the way the remaining troupe decided to make their own mark on the burlesque scene.

Armed with only a love of sequins, glamour and sass, The Cheesecake Burlesque Revue was officially born in January 2007. What once was a casual gathering of friends, quickly became a well oiled burlesque machine. In the coming months and years, since 2006, The Cheesecake Burlesque Revue have gone on to win a total of 5 Monday Magazine M-Awards, perform at Miss Exotic World in Las Vegas, meet burlesque legends, perform in the Vancouver International Burlesque Festival, appear on the cover of Monday Magazine twice, be featured in countless articles, operate a successful merchandising line and book sold out theatres across British Columbia. It seems as if The Cheesecakes most recent award as "Next Big Thing" couldn't have come at a better time.
